Futatsu no Spica

A brand new series I have started just today! It's a wonderful show that's based off a manga and an anime. A young girl, Asumi Kumogawa aspires so badly to become an astronaut and to go into space. She'd do anything to for her dreams to come true. She attends a new school, a space school in Japan. Where she is accomponied by her childhood friend, Fuchuya Shinnosuke (Fuchya), who secretly has a crush on her. Tagging along are new friends, Suzuki, an intelligent and bright youngling; Kei Omi, a bit prejuduce against people with connections; and Ukita, the competitive, and a bit arrogant high class girl. They all want very much to head into the world of stars to appreciate the Earth even more.

Asumi's past is what makes her want her dreams so badly. When she was less then six years old, the first manned-rocket in Japan crashed into her hometown when spectating the event. Injuring her mother severely, and suprisingly Asumi was pefectly unscathed. Years later, after her mother battled injuries, she died in a coma at the age of six. What seems to actually be the reason for going to space is 'to see her mother'. At her own mother's funeral, her father and her had a conversation. Her father tells her that her mom is now a star. The star, Spica. It cannot survive without the other Spica, so her mother is 'never alone'. That is when Asumi asks her father if she 'wants to see mom again'. He says he does, and that is when Asumi tells him she is going to space, and she will bring her father to space, too.

From what I can tell, and I can't tell much, this series looks very promising. I don't intend to read the manga, or the anime just yet.
